Sweet Tooth: Baked Apple Chips

 

Many say, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Not only do apples produce disease-fighting antioxidants, but they are great for naturally cleaning your teeth. (Just make sure you floss afterwards!)

With back-to-school on everyone’s mind, we thought this month’s Sweet Tooth would be perfect twist on a lunch snack. While it may not possess as many health benefits as a whole apple, baked apple chips are a perfect treat for kids and teachers alike. We found a recipe from Fifteen Spatulas that we love!

 

Ingredients

1 green or red apple
1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp sugar

 

Directions

Preheat oven to 225°F. Mix cinnamon and sugar together. Slice apples thinly horizontally, either with or without core. Line two pans with parchment paper and place apples slices in a single layer. Sprinkle slices with cinnamon sugar. Bake for 1 hour, then remove from oven and flip on sheet. Bake for 1 more hour. Turn oven off and allow chips to cool completely, in which they will crisp up. After they’ve cooled, enjoy!
