Dentist of the Month: February 2013

Our “Dentist of the Month” will be answering five questions straight from dental patients and DentalPlans.com Members. This month, Dr. James Reske who provides dental care for families in Norfolk, VA, will be answering your important dental health questions!

Do electric toothbrushes really make a difference?

Yes. Patients brush longer when they use an electric toothbrush. Plus, the ultra sonic vibrations disrupt plaque under the gum line and around margins of fillings and crowns.

What kinds of toothpaste do you recommend?

I recommend various brands according to patient needs. Mainly, I recommend Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief or Colgate Total.

What foods are bad for your teeth?

Hard, stick and chewy foods are bad for your teeth. Foods containing lots of sugar are particularly bad.

How often should I change my toothbrush?

It depends on how you use it, but usually every three months. If you are sick, you should change your toothbrush as soon as the illness has run its course.

How often should I get a dental checkup?

You should get a dental checkup at least every six months, unless you are a perio patient.
