Sweet Tooth

We are in a festive mood here at DentalPlans.com, so when we saw this Firecracker Bundt Cake dessert recipe for the Fourth of July on Cooking with Sugar, we had to share it! It’s fun and easy to make. As always, remember to brush and floss thoroughly after indulging in any sweets!

Ingredients

  • 1 box of Betty Crocker® SuperMoist® white cake mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
  • Red food coloring
  • Blue food coloring
  • 1 (12 oz) can of Betty Crocker® Whipped Fluffy White Frosting

Directions

Step One:

Heat your oven to 325ºF. Generously grease 12-cup bundt cake pan. Then, make cake batter as directed on box using called-for water, oil and eggs. Once mixed, pour 1 cup of the batter into a small bowl and stir in red food color until well mixed. Next, pour another cup of the batter into a separate bowl and stir in blue food color until well mixed and color desired is achieved.

Step Two:

Pour red cake batter into the bottom of the pan, making sure the pan is lined with red since it is the top layer of the cake. Carefully pour remaining white batter over red batter in pan. Finally, closer to the center of the pan pour blue batter over white batter. (Blue batter does not need to completely cover white batter; it looks better if it just forms a ring in the center of the white batter.)

Step Three:

Bake as directed on box or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool cake for 5 minutes. While cake cools, place a cooling rack over a cookie sheet. Turn pan upside down onto cooling rack and let cake cool completely for 30 minutes.

Step Four:

Once cake is cool, equally divide frosting into 3 microwavable bowls. Microwave 1 bowl of frosting uncovered on High for a few seconds until smooth enough to drizzle over cake. With a spoon, drizzle the white frosting back and forth around cake in a striping pattern using all of the frosting. Repeat for second and third bowls adding blue dye to one bowl and red dye to the other after heating. Drizzle each color frosting over cake in striping pattern making sure all three colors can be seen. Let cake stand at room temperature until frosting has set. Enjoy!
