Just Moved? 5 Tips to Find a Great Dentist for Your Kids

dentist

One of the most difficult parts of a move can be establishing new health care providers. When it comes to your children, it’s especially important to find a superior provider.

Try to think about moving as an opportunity to discover new opportunities for excellent health care. Check out these 5 tips to help you find a dentist for your kids when you move:

Ask your insurance company: If you have dental insurance, begin by searching for pediatric dentists in your network. You may end up being limited in your selection. At that point, you’ll need to decide if you like the dentist recommended to you, or if you’re willing to pay a little more to go outside network.

Visit offices: Don’t judge a pediatric dentist by the website or from an advertisement. After you move, drop by the dentist’s office to get a feel for the atmosphere and the staff. Ask for a tour of the office. Look for features that help kids relax and enjoy trips to the dentist. If your child requires dental procedures, now is the time to ask about pain relief options.

Talk to other parents: When you enroll your children in school or daycare after moving, introduce yourself to other parents. Parents are great resources for discovering the best local health care providers. Don’t just ask who other parents recommend. Ask specifics, such as why the parent prefers that particular dentist, or ask the parent to recount a good experience with that dentist.

Ask your pediatrician: Your new pediatrician may have recommendations when it comes to a dentist for your kids. If he or she doesn’t officially recommend anyone, ask around the office which dentist they take their kids to see.

Read reviews. These days, you can find online reviews of everything, from local pizza joints to pediatric dentists. Run a search for potential dentists online and read user reviews. Read the good reviews and the bad ones, and approach the process with an open mind. Remember, some people are just disgruntled about everything, so you should still visit offices in person even if you’ve read a bad review or two.
